The statement

In his first statement as supreme leader, read by a presenter on state television rather than delivered on camera, Mojtaba Khamenei said "the lever of blocking the Strait of Hormuz must continue to be used", vowed revenge for those killed, urged Iran's neighbours to close US bases on their territory and said Iran would keep attacking such bases. He said Iran would seek compensation and, if refused, take or destroy equivalent enemy property.
