Iran has not sought a ceasefire or negotiations with the US.
Open Claimed by Government of Iran on 15 March 2026.
The statement
In an interview with CBS, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said "we never asked for a ceasefire, and we have never asked even for negotiation", that Iran saw no reason to negotiate with the US and nothing was on the table, and that Iran was ready to defend itself "as long as it takes". He said the strait was not closed, that ships were hesitant because of insecurity, and that Iran was open to talks with countries on safe passage for their vessels.

The record holds Araghchi's interview (ev-20261027-jk7h) and later reports of messages passed through mediators (ev-20261027-jvq1), but no independent evidence that Iran asked for a ceasefire or talks before 15 March.
