Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said late on 17 June that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had been finalised 'with the signatures of the presidents' and had taken effect, and the White House confirmed Trump had signed, saying he did so at the Palace of Versailles, Al Jazeera reported. The text extends the ceasefire that began on 8 April by 60 days, provides for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz gradually and for the US to lift its blockade of Iranian ports, and leaves the nuclear file and sanctions relief to negotiation. A planned signing ceremony in Geneva on 19 June was dropped. Iran says its missile programme is off the table and that it will charge fees for services in the strait under a new regime to be agreed with Oman.
