A Pentagon spokesperson told Al Jazeera that "all US bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have re-deployed to their home stations in the United States", after reports on 4 October of an urgent departure of about a dozen B-1 bombers. The reason was not given. The move followed the arrest of five men near the base on 27 September on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences, which the UK prime minister linked to Iran.
