CENTCOM spokesperson Navy Captain Tim Hawkins told Reuters that 'Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz' and that 'traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces are monitoring the situation to ensure this remains the case'. Vice President JD Vance told Fox News he was skeptical of the closure reports and said 16 million barrels had moved through the strait in the previous 24 hours, TheWrap reported. Reuters reported on 22 June that traffic was weaker on Sunday 21 June because of concerns about passage, and that two crude tankers carrying just under 2 million barrels sailed through on 22 June, against a pre-war average of 125 crossings a day.
