The US Treasury sanctioned Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the body handling transit requests, Al Jazeera reported. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Treasury would "aggressively target any actors involved" in facilitating tolls and that "any willing partners will be penalized", and said Oman's ambassador had assured him there were no plans for a toll system. Bessent said Washington would not discuss sanctions relief until the strait reopened and Iran handed over its highly enriched uranium.
