The UN more than doubled its Lebanon appeal on 5 June to nearly $640 million, adding $331 million to run to the end of August, Al-Monitor reported; only $185 million of the original $308 million had been received. The UN said about 1.4 million people, roughly a quarter of the population, need aid, nearly a million have fled their homes including about 135,000 in collective shelters, more than 1.2 million face acute food insecurity, and 62 hospitals and health facilities are damaged or closed. Resident humanitarian coordinator Imran Riza said the toll on civilians was 'alarming and worsening by the day'.
