The US State Department said on 15 May that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend the cessation of hostilities that began in mid-April by 45 days, after two days of talks in Washington. Lebanon's state news agency said a US-facilitated security track would begin on 29 May, with a further round of talks set for 2 and 3 June. Lebanon's delegation welcomed the extension; Hezbollah on 16 May condemned the outcome and told the government to stop making "concessions". Strikes and Hezbollah attacks continued in southern Lebanon after the announcement.
