A criminal complaint unsealed in Manhattan federal court on 15 May charged Iraqi national Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, whom prosecutors describe as a senior Kataib Hezbollah leader, over at least 18 attacks and attempted attacks, including a firebombing in Amsterdam, a shooting at the US consulate in Toronto and a foiled bomb plot in Paris. Court filings say the attacks were meant to pressure the US and Israel to halt military action against Iran. FBI Director Kash Patel said he was arrested overseas in an operation led from Turkey; his lawyer called him a "political prisoner". He has not entered a plea.
