Trump says he called off a US attack on Iran planned for the next day at the request of Gulf leaders

President Trump wrote on Truth Social on 18 May that the US military would not carry out a "scheduled attack" on Iran the following day because "serious negotiations are now taking place", crediting the leaders of Qatar and Saudi Arabia and, in later remarks, the UAE. He said he had told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Daniel Caine to be ready for a full, large-scale assault at short notice if no acceptable deal was reached. President Pezeshkian replied that "dialogue does not mean surrender". The old tracker placed this on 19 May.
