Kataib Hezbollah secretary general Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi said "the resistance has won this round" after the US-led coalition left Iraq on 30 September, and denied reaching any understanding with Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on disarming militias, The National reported on 1 October. Al-Zaidi pledged "serious" steps to disarm Iran-backed groups and keep Iraqi territory from being used to threaten neighbours. The withdrawal deadline had first been tied to militia disarmament, which was pushed back to June 2027.
