Drone strike starts fire at a generator outside the inner perimeter of the UAE's Barakah nuclear plant; no radiation release

Abu Dhabi authorities said a drone hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in Al Dhafra region, starting a fire, with no injuries and normal radiation levels. The UAE defence ministry said air defences intercepted two of three drones that came from the "western border" direction. The IAEA said one unit temporarily ran on emergency diesel generators and its chief Rafael Grossi called military activity that threatens nuclear safety "unacceptable"; the UAE nuclear regulator said no radioactive material was released. No group claimed the attack; on 20 and 21 May the UAE said the drones were launched from Iraqi territory. It was the first strike on the plant during the war.
