Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defence Minister Katz issued a joint statement at about 07:00 GMT ordering the army to target Beirut's southern suburbs, and the Israeli military issued displacement orders telling residents to leave, Al Jazeera reported. Al Jazeera's correspondent said large numbers of people fled and government shelters were reported full. Katz said there would be no calm in Beirut while Hezbollah attacks continued. The order followed Israel's capture of Beaufort Castle north of the Litani on 31 May, its deepest advance in decades.
