Freightos: Shanghai to Jebel Ali rates more than double after Hormuz closes
Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.
Freightos reported that Shanghai to Jebel Ali container rates rose from $1,800 per 40ft to more than $4,000 within days of the Strait of Hormuz closing, and that CMA CGM introduced a $3,000 per 40ft emergency surcharge for Gulf-bound boxes. It said Hapag-Lloyd and MSC suspended bookings to and from Persian Gulf ports, and that carriers which had resumed some Red Sea sailings diverted them back around the Cape of Good Hope. Main FBX lanes barely moved that week: Asia to North Europe fell 1% and Asia to the Mediterranean 2%, per Freightos.
