UKMTO said late on Thursday that a tanker transiting outbound about 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, was on fire, and later that the report indicated a small boat had approached on the port side and attached two explosive devices to the hull above the waterline; the blasts caused an engine-room fire that temporarily disabled the ship. UKMTO said the crew were safe, there was no environmental impact, the fire was put out and the ship continued to its next port. Three maritime security sources told Reuters the ship was the Panama-flagged tanker Louise 1 and described it as the first successful limpet-mine attack in the strait in this war. India's shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal said all 27 Indian seafarers aboard were safe. No party said it was responsible.
