South Korea's defence ministry plans to widen its anti-piracy unit's operating area closer to the Strait of Hormuz, subject to parliament
Confirmed1 distinct origin, 1 independent.
South Korea's defence ministry finalised a revised motion on 5 November to extend the deployment of its Cheonghae anti-piracy unit and widen its operating area closer to the Strait of Hormuz, adding a P-8A patrol aircraft, Asia Today reported. The Korea Times said the plan adds a mine-clearing team and needs parliament's approval, and that it adds 75 personnel; Reuters, carried by The Standard, said it follows Trump's pressure for support in the Iran war. The government says it keeps its principle of not joining the war, Asia Today reported.
