7 March 2026 in brief

Lebanon's health ministry said 217 people had been killed since 2 March, and HRANA recorded 485 attacks across 30 Iranian provinces and put reported civilian deaths in Iran since the war began at 1,205. [1][2] Israel's military said two of its soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, the first since fighting with Hezbollah resumed, and Hezbollah said it fought Israeli troops landed by helicopter in the Bekaa Valley. [1][2] The IDF said it struck 16 Quds Force aircraft at Tehran's Mehrabad airport, and rockets were fired at the US embassy in Baghdad, Al Jazeera reported. [1][2] Iran's military said the Strait of Hormuz remained open but that it would target any US or Israeli ships trying to pass through. President Pezeshkian apologised to neighbouring countries for Iranian attacks and said they would not be targeted unless attacks came from their territory, though alerts continued in Qatar, the UAE and Bahrain within hours.
