15 October 2026 in brief

The Houthis fired five missiles at the al-Maashiq presidential palace in Aden, Yemen's information minister said, and Yemen's health minister put the toll at five killed and 16 injured, Al Jazeera reported. [1] US Central Command said the United States and regional partners control the Strait of Hormuz and that the GFS Pride "was hit by an IRGC projectile", rejecting Iran's mine claim, while the Joint Maritime Information Center counted eight projectile attacks on four tankers and four container ships on 11 and 13 October. [1] Iran's army said a "violating" tanker that had switched off its tracking was on fire in the eastern strait, without giving a cause, in a report that was not independently confirmed. [1] The GCC secretary general said a Gulf-EU summit planned in Riyadh would be rescheduled because of Houthi attacks, and France said it had begun deploying military means to help protect Saudi oil facilities. [1] The US Treasury sanctioned 10 entities and 16 people over dealings with Iran, among them the Iraq Development Bank, and a Hezbollah MP said an explosives-laden vehicle seized by the Lebanese army belonged to the group and was meant for use against Israel.
