Trump wrote on social media on 23 April that he had ordered the US Navy to 'shoot and kill any boat' putting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, with 'no hesitation', and said US minesweepers were clearing the strait and should continue at 'a tripled-up level', AP reported. AP had reported the previous day that the Pentagon told lawmakers in a classified briefing that clearing mines would likely take six months. On 24 April Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said any further Iranian mine-laying would be treated as a ceasefire violation and that 'we will shoot to destroy, no hesitation'.
