Estonia's defence forces said three Russian MiG-31 fighters entered Estonian airspace near Vaindloo island on 19 September without flight plans and with transponders off, staying about 12 minutes before Italian F-35s on NATO air policing escorted them out. Estonia requested NATO Article 4 consultations and an emergency UN Security Council meeting. Russia's defence ministry said the flight followed international rules over neutral waters and violated no borders. Estonian officials called it the fourth and most serious Russian violation of their airspace in 2025.
