Reuters, citing the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO), reported that a tanker was struck by three projectiles 17 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, while sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz, with no casualties or environmental impact reported at first. Saudi national shipping company Bahri later said two Filipino seafarers were killed in a security incident involving its vessel Sidr in the strait on 31 August, and Reuters reported Saudi Arabia blamed Iran and Bahri said it was the third of its vessels hit. Iran International, citing shipping intelligence firms Marisks and Kpler, reported two Saudi supertankers, each carrying about 2 million barrels, were struck off Khasab. The strikes came as US and Iranian forces resumed exchanges of fire around the strait after the June memorandum broke down.
