Acting Kursk governor Alexei Smirnov said at a meeting on 12 August that about 121,000 people had left the region's border areas and that 180,000 were subject to evacuation, and that 28 settlements were under Ukrainian control, the Kyiv Post reported. He later said evacuees from five border districts would be flown to temporary housing on the Azov coast of Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The Kyiv Post said the evacuation was less orderly than he described.
