The UAE said late on 13 July that two national tankers were hit by two Iranian cruise missiles in the southern lane of the strait inside Omani waters, killing one Indian crew member and wounding eight others, six Indians and two Ukrainians, four of them seriously, the Guardian and Al Jazeera reported. The IRGC said via Tasnim that it hit two 'offending' supertankers, and UKMTO reported a tanker hit by a missile on the southern route. India summoned an Iranian diplomat to protest; the UAE defence ministry said it reserved 'its full right to respond'.
