The Congressional Budget Office estimated the war had cost the US $38 billion through 1 August and projected $3 billion a month more, mostly from munitions use, and said replenishing stockpiles could take five years, Reuters reported. It said the estimate excludes recent strikes on shipping, attacks on US installations and financing costs, and that the Defense Department did not cooperate with congressional auditors.
