US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had cancelled a planned military strike on Iran after Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries asked Washington to delay, and that the outlines of a deal had been agreed, Reuters reported via Haaretz. Israel's Channel 12, cited by the Times of Israel, said Central Command had drawn up a plan to hit Iran's energy infrastructure with Israeli participation, that Qatar held talks with Iran, the US and Oman on 31 July and 1 August to avert it, and that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman phoned Trump to urge restraint. Iranian military sources quoted by Mehr denied that Iran had asked for a halt. The cancellation came after Trump said on 31 July that the US would hit Iran very hard over the next four to eight weeks.
