President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces had begun the battle for Donbas, for which they had been preparing a long time, with a significant part of the Russian army concentrated on it. Luhansk governor Serhiy Haidai announced the start of the attack shortly before. The offensive followed Russia's withdrawal from the north and its 25 March statement that Donbas was its main goal.
