The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said Israel agreed to release five Lebanese detainees held in southern Lebanon, describing them as civilians with no militant ties, after Lebanon helped efforts to locate the remains of Lebanese Jewish community figures killed in the mid-1980s. The ICRC facilitated the handovers, the first on 3 September, and completed the transfer of all five on 4 September. The US said its mediated talks led to the handover.
