Gazprom halts Nord Stream 1 for maintenance, then says it will stay shut
Disputedon credible origins that conflict: 0 distinct origins, 0 tied to no party.
Gazprom stopped gas flows through Nord Stream 1 to Germany on 31 August for what it called three days of maintenance. On 2 September it said it had found oil leaks in turbines at the Portovaya compressor station and would not restart. Siemens Energy said such leaks did not normally stop a turbine and could be sealed on site, and Germany's regulator said the defects were no reason to halt the pipeline. The announcement came hours after G7 ministers agreed to cap the price of Russian oil.
