In a late-night address on 30 July, President Zelenskyy announced a mandatory evacuation of the Donetsk region, saying hundreds of thousands of people remained in combat areas and that those who left would receive compensation. Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk tied the order to winter, saying gas supplies in the region had been destroyed. RFE/RL reported officials hoped to move up to 220,000 people. The order came as fighting in Donbas moved towards Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Bakhmut.
