Russia withdraws from Lyman in Donetsk oblast; Ukraine declares the town cleared
Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.
Russia's defence ministry said on 1 October it was pulling troops out of Lyman because of a threat of encirclement, moments after Ukraine's defence ministry said its forces had entered the town. Zelenskyy said on 2 October that Lyman was fully cleared. Lyman, taken by Russia in May, had served as a rail and logistics hub for Russian forces in northern Donetsk. The withdrawal came a day after the Kremlin claimed to annex Donetsk oblast.
