UKMTO said six armed people boarded a westbound tanker about 136 nautical miles east of Mukalla, Yemen, took control and diverted it toward Somalia, Reuters reported via gCaptain. Lloyd's List identified the ship as the product tanker Sibu 1, formerly Seamull, which the US Treasury sanctioned in December 2025 for carrying Iranian petroleum products and calling at Houthi-held ports. UKMTO did not say whether the crew was safe. Somali piracy has been rising as navies are stretched by the war.
