Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant loses all off-site power for the tenth time, beginning its longest outage of the war

Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant lost all off-site power on 23 September after military activity damaged its last remaining power line about 1.5 km away, and its reactors' cooling was switched to emergency diesel generators. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said a week later that it was by far the longest such event of the war and not sustainable for nuclear safety; it was the tenth complete loss of off-site power since February 2022. Russia and Ukraine blamed each other for attacks endangering the plant.
