Swedish seismologists recorded two underwater explosions near the Danish island of Bornholm on 26 September, and four leaks appeared on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in the Danish and Swedish economic zones. Danish police later said powerful explosions caused the damage, and Swedish prosecutors said in November that explosive residue was found. Russia blamed the West and in October accused British forces, which Britain denied; Ukraine blamed Russia. Denmark and Sweden closed their investigations in 2024 without naming a culprit, while German prosecutors charged a Ukrainian man in 2026, alleging he acted for Ukrainian state entities, which Kyiv denies and he denies.
