A local government official and witnesses told AFP that boats carrying armed Houthi fighters reached Mayyun, or Perim, island, which splits the Bab al-Mandab strait into two shipping lanes, after government forces withdrew the previous day. A government military official later told AFP the Houthis had seized Yemen's entire Red Sea coast, including the Greater and Lesser Hanish islands. Houthi media said Saudi aircraft struck Mokha airport twice. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said navigation remained safe for all shipping except Saudi vessels, which the group has banned.
