IAEA reports a heavy attack on the Zaporizhzhia thermal plant that links the occupied nuclear plant to the grid

Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.

The IAEA said the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant, whose switchyard helps carry power to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, came under heavy attack on the morning of 4 June, with its team seeing smoke and hearing military activity. The nuclear plant depends on a single remaining power line, which had been cut repeatedly in recent weeks, each time forcing it onto emergency diesel generators to cool its six reactors; the line stayed connected and staff sheltered. The IAEA called it a matter of serious concern and did not say who attacked. The plant's 17th blackout of the war had followed a drone strike on a substation across the Dnipro.
