Russia gives ICC-indicted children's commissioner Lvova-Belova a platform at an informal UN Security Council meeting

Russia called an informal Security Council meeting with Maria Lvova-Belova, named in an ICC arrest warrant on 17 March, as lead speaker by video. The UK blocked the meeting's broadcast and, like the US, did not send its ambassador; UK deputy ambassador James Kariuki said inviting someone indicted by the ICC spoke for itself, and Poland's ambassador called her briefing not appropriate. Russia's UN mission said it was evacuating children from danger in Donbas and that Western media misrepresented this as abduction; Ukrainian officials said nearly 8,000 children had been deported, a number Al Jazeera said was hard to verify. Lvova-Belova's office said 16 children from nine families had been reunited with relatives since 29 March.
