Oman's Maritime Security Center said a Royal Navy of Oman vessel evacuated 23 crew from the Panama-flagged product tanker El Gaia, about 103 nautical miles northeast of Musandam, that the engine-room fire was out and that the ship was under tow, with two crew still missing. India's Ministry of External Affairs said 14 of the crew were Indian and one of them was missing, The Maritime Executive reported. The IRGC navy said the ship hit sea mines in a restricted zone; US Central Command said Iran had struck it with a missile last month and with a drone over the weekend. UKMTO placed the attack between late 12 and early 13 September.
