Drone strike on a French and Kurdish base near Erbil kills a French soldier and wounds others

Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.

A drone struck a joint Peshmerga and French base near Makhmour, southwest of Erbil, late on 12 March, killing French Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion and wounding several other soldiers, French officials said; military officials put the wounded at six. President Emmanuel Macron called the attack "unacceptable" and said the war in Iran could not justify it. Al Jazeera reported that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella of Iran-aligned groups, claimed the attack; Italy said an overnight strike also hit its base in Erbil without casualties.
