Moody's says Russia has defaulted on its foreign debt as sanctions block payments
Reportedon one origin only: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.
Moody's said holders of Russian eurobonds had not received about $100 million in coupon payments by the end of a 30-day grace period on 26 June, which it considered an event of default. The payments were blocked after a US Treasury licence expired on 25 May. Russia's finance ministry denied it was in default, saying it had paid and the money was held up abroad. It was Russia's first default on foreign debt since 1918.
