Overnight on 23 to 24 May Russia used about 90 missiles, 36 of them ballistic, and 600 drones, according to Zelensky, including a third combat launch of the Oreshnik intermediate-range missile, aimed at Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Oblast. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported at least two killed and 81 injured in the capital, with damage to foreign ministry buildings, an opera theatre and the National Chernobyl Museum; two more were killed in the region and 11 injured in Cherkasy. Russia's defence ministry confirmed the Oreshnik launch and called it a response to Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets in Russia. An expert cited by Novaya Gazeta Europe said the Oreshnik's inert warheads fell in open ground.
