Lebanon's Education Minister Rima Karami said on 17 July that the Israeli military looted three schools in southern Lebanon and then used explosives to reduce them to 'piles of ashes', according to the state National News Agency, as carried by Anadolu on Al Jazeera. UNESCO had counted 17 schools destroyed and more than 100 damaged by June, and says about 500,000 Lebanese children are out of school. Lebanese authorities put the toll since March at 4,324 killed, including 250 children, and 12,223 injured, with more than one million displaced. Israel says it is targeting Hezbollah and holds a zone about 10 km deep in the south under a June framework that sets no withdrawal date.
