The 60-day memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran in June expired on 17 August with no sign of a deal to end the war, AP reported via The Times of Israel. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said an understanding had been reached with Oman on the map of a transit route through the Strait of Hormuz and that a joint statement was being finalised; earlier reports said ships would enter near Iran and exit near Oman with no fees in an interim period. President Trump told reporters the US was not seeking to extend the memorandum, and in a Fox News interview warned Oman against getting in the way. The US says it will keep its blockade of Iranian ports until an acceptable deal reopens the strait.
