A Russian ballistic missile detonated over a playground in a residential area of Kryvyi Rih on the evening of 4 April, killing 20 civilians and injuring at least 63, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission (HRMMU) said; it called it the deadliest single attack for children it had verified since February 2022, with nine children killed. Russia's defence ministry said the strike targeted a gathering of military personnel, which Ukraine's General Staff called false, saying the missile hit a residential area with a playground, the Guardian reported. Kryvyi Rih is President Zelensky's home city, about 60 to 70 km from the front line.
