Iran's state news agency IRNA said on 22 August that Iran had allowed a number of Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the strait after repeated requests from Baghdad, made during parliament speaker Ghalibaf's visit to Iraq, Reuters reported via gCaptain. Iraqi President Nizar Amedi said Iran had facilitated the passage of Iraqi oil vessels in recent days but that the issue remained complicated. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on 21 August Baghdad was expanding exports via Turkey's Ceyhan and planned exports through Syria's Baniyas and Jordan's Aqaba. Iraq produced about 4 million barrels a day before the war.
