US officials said Iran shot down a US Air Force F-15E over Iran on 3 April and that one of its two crew members was rescued, CBS News and the New York Times reported, according to The National. A second US aircraft, an A-10, went down near the Strait of Hormuz the same day and its pilot was rescued, US officials told the New York Times; they did not say how it crashed. Iran's Fars agency posted images apparently showing wreckage and said a reward was offered for the pilots. It was the first manned US aircraft reported downed by Iranian fire in the war.
