Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said on 2 July that any vessel departing from its designated route or disregarding Iran's navigation protocols would face an 'immediate and forceful response', in a statement carried by Tasnim and reported by Al Jazeera. The warning followed a CENTCOM-hosted security dialogue in Bahrain on 1 July at which regional leaders backed the 'free flow of commerce', which Iran's deputy foreign minister said could not establish security in the Gulf. Ships had begun using a US-backed southern route near the Omani coast, the Guardian reported.
