US naval blockade of Iranian ports takes effect; Iran calls it piracy
Reportedon origins from one side only: 3 distinct origins, 0 tied to no party.
After Trump announced on 12 April that the US Navy would begin blockading ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz and interdict vessels that paid Iran a toll, US Central Command said the navy would block all Iranian ports from 14:00 GMT on 13 April, stopping vessels of any nation sailing to or from Iran but not those using non-Iranian ports, Al Jazeera reported. UKMTO said the blockade applied without distinction to ships engaging with Iranian ports and oil terminals. Lloyd's List said shipping through the strait immediately halted, with some vessels turning back. Iran called the blockade piracy; the IRGC said vessels approaching the strait would be treated as a ceasefire breach, and spokesman Baghaei called it revenge against the global economy.
