US Central Command said two destroyers, USS Frank E Peterson and USS Michael Murphy, entered the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Gulf as part of an effort to clear sea mines it said were laid by the IRGC, and Admiral Brad Cooper said a safe route would soon be shared with shipping, Al Jazeera reported. A spokesman for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters denied that US vessels had entered the strait, and the IRGC vowed a strong response to any military ships passing. Trump said the US was clearing the strait as a favour to China, Japan and South Korea.
