Two ballistic missiles struck the campus of a military telecommunications institute and a nearby hospital in Poltava on the morning of 3 September, about two minutes after the air raid alert, Meduza reported. President Zelensky first reported at least 41 killed and more than 180 injured; Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office later put the toll at at least 51, and the Kyiv Independent later reported 54 dead. Russia's defence ministry did not comment, while Russian pro-war bloggers claimed the strike hit a military assembly. It was one of the deadliest single strikes of the war, and Zelensky ordered a full investigation and asked allies to speed up air defence deliveries.
