Ukrainian troops raise the flag on the Kinburn Spit, held by Russia since 2022, as fighting continues

Ukraine's Southern Defence Forces said Ukrainian troops raised the national flag on the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv Oblast as Russian forces withdrew under heavy fire. Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk called the flag mainly symbolic and said it was too early to say Russian forces had completely withdrawn. No Russian statement was reported. Ukrainian officials said in June they aimed to cut Russian supply lines to Crimea.
